GTA 6 Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S and the PC Question

Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026. The first question after the date is where you can play it. Rockstar has given a clear answer for two platforms and no answer for the rest. This guide lays out exactly what is confirmed, who said it, and what is still open, so you can decide what to buy without leaning on rumours. Last verified: October 15, 2026.

Quick answer

Grand Theft Auto VI is confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, launching November 19, 2026. That is the full list of confirmed platforms. Rockstar and Take-Two have not announced a PC version, a PS4 or Xbox One version, a Nintendo Switch 2 version or any release date for any other platform.

What Rockstar and Take-Two have confirmed

Take-Two's official pre-order announcement, published on June 24, 2026, says the game launches November 19, 2026 "for the PlayStation 5 computer entertainment systems and Xbox Series X|S games and entertainment systems". The same announcement calls it "a single-player experience". The US price is $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition. For all the pre-order detail, see our guides on price and pre-order and on editions and the pre-order bonus.

Rockstar's own game page at rockstargames.com/VI shows the November 19, 2026 date and the story summary. It does not list any platform other than the two above.

PlayStation 5

Sony has posted about the game on the official PlayStation Blog. The post is titled "Grand Theft Auto VI plays best on PS5 November 19" and was published on June 24, 2026. It says Sony and Rockstar worked together on the PS5 experience, and it names two features: Tempest 3D AudioTech for the sound of Leonida, and the ultra-high speed SSD for near-instant load times. It also says players can pick up a PS5 or a PS5 Pro at direct.playstation.com, where available, and at local retailers.

What the post does not do is describe PS5 Pro-specific features, resolution or frame rate. Rockstar has not published those either. If you see numbers for them online, they did not come from Rockstar.

Xbox Series X|S

The Take-Two announcement lists Xbox Series X|S as a launch platform, so both Series X and Series S are covered by that wording. Microsoft's Xbox Wire also names Grand Theft Auto VI among the big releases of the year in its console price update from June 25, 2026. Rockstar has not published separate technical details for Series X and Series S, so we do not state any.

Is GTA 6 coming to PC?

Not at launch, and there is no announcement for later. Rockstar's official pages and Take-Two's pre-order announcement list PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. Take-Two's executives have talked about platform strategy in general terms, but a general comment about a company's approach is not an announcement of a PC version for this game. Until Rockstar posts one on its own site or on Newswire, treat PC as unconfirmed. The same goes for any store page, Steam or otherwise, that claims to list a PC release.

What about PS4, Xbox One and Switch 2?

Rockstar has not announced Grand Theft Auto VI for PS4, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch 2. The confirmed platforms are PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, nothing else. Cloud streaming and subscription services such as Game Pass have not been announced for this game either, as of the date above.

Where to buy and when you can pre-load

Take-Two's announcement says the game will be available at the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store, the Rockstar Games Store and global retailers and storefronts. Players who pre-order digital versions can begin pre-loading on November 12, 2026. The physical version contains a download code inside the box and is available from November 12, 2026 to support pre-loading. Pre-order started at midnight local time on June 25, 2026.

What "single-player" means here

Take-Two describes the game as a single-player experience. That is the wording used in the official announcement, and we repeat it as written. We do not add details about online modes, because Rockstar has not described any for this game.

How to read platform news before launch

Platform claims spread faster than facts. A store listing, a retailer placeholder or a screenshot of a menu is not an announcement. A quote from an executive about how a company usually works is not an announcement either. The checks that matter are simple. Is the claim on rockstargames.com, on Rockstar Newswire, in a Take-Two investor release, or on the official blog of a console maker? Does it name this game and this platform in plain words? If the answer to either is no, wait. Rockstar has been consistent so far: the date, the platforms, the price and the pre-order rules all came through its own channels and Take-Two's, in one announcement.

Does it matter which console you pick?

On the facts Rockstar has published, both confirmed platforms launch on the same day, with the same US prices and the same pre-load date. Sony has named PS5 features such as Tempest 3D AudioTech and fast SSD loading. Rockstar has not said that either console version has content the other lacks. So the confirmed answer is to buy for the console you already own. Any claim that one version is better or has exclusive content is not confirmed.

What to do before launch

Pick the console you already own and check its free storage, since Rockstar has not published a file size. Decide between digital and physical based on the confirmed rules above: both pre-load from November 12. Bookmark Rockstar's official page at rockstargames.com/VI and the Rockstar Newswire for announcements. When the map is useful after launch, the 305 HQ companion is a fan tool, not an official Rockstar product.
